Terms of Use
Last updated 5 November 2026
These terms apply when you use the ChatGIF app, keyboard, iMessage app and website ("ChatGIF"), run by Calvin Holloway in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). By using ChatGIF you agree to them. Please also read our Privacy Policy.
1. Who can use ChatGIF
You must be at least 13 to use ChatGIF. If you're under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you need permission from a parent or guardian, and they agree to these terms for you.
2. How ChatGIF works
ChatGIF uses artificial intelligence (OpenAI's image models) to turn your prompts and photos into animated GIFs. AI results can be unexpected, inaccurate or not what you had in mind, and two requests with the same prompt can give different GIFs. A GIF counts toward your allowance once it's made, even if you don't like the result. If something went wrong on our side, contact us and we'll put it right.
3. Your content
Your prompts, the photos you pick and the GIFs ChatGIF makes for you are your content. As between you and us, you own it, to the extent the law allows. You give us permission to use your content only as needed to run ChatGIF: to make your GIFs, and to host GIFs you choose to share by link.
You're responsible for your content and how you use it. Only upload photos you have the right to use, and don't upload photos of other people without their permission. Because GIFs are made by AI, other people may get similar results, and we can't promise that a GIF is unique or that it can be protected by copyright.
4. What you can't do
Don't use ChatGIF to make or share anything that:
- is sexual and involves anyone under 18, or is sexually explicit at all;
- harasses, bullies, threatens or humiliates someone, or encourages violence or self-harm;
- shows a real person in a misleading, sexual or degrading way;
- is hateful toward people because of who they are;
- infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
- is illegal, or helps someone break the law.
Also don't try to get around your plan's limits (for example by creating lots of accounts), interfere with or overload our systems, copy or scrape the service, or reverse engineer the app except where the law allows it. OpenAI's usage policies also apply to what you ask ChatGIF to make.
We may block prompts, remove shared GIFs, and suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
5. Shared links
When you share a GIF by link, anyone with the link can see it and pass it on. You can turn a link off in the app, but we can't recall copies other people have already saved. To report a shared GIF, use the "Report this GIF" link on its page or email hello@chatgif.app.
6. Plans, subscriptions and GIF packs
- Free plan. Every account gets a number of free GIFs each week, shown in the app. Free GIFs carry a small ChatGIF badge.
- Subscriptions. ChatGIF Plus and Max give you more GIFs each week. You can pay weekly, monthly or yearly. Payment is charged to your Apple account when you confirm the purchase.
- Automatic renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the same price and length unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions.
- Free trials. If a plan comes with a free trial, it turns into a paid subscription when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Each Apple account can get one free trial.
- Weekly GIFs. Your plan's GIFs refill every week. GIFs you don't use in a week don't carry over. A "Best quality" GIF counts as two.
- GIF packs. GIF packs are one-off purchases. Pack GIFs don't expire and have no cash value.
- Refunds. All purchases are handled by Apple, so refund requests go to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. This doesn't affect your legal rights as a consumer.
- Price changes. If we change the price of a subscription, Apple will tell you beforehand, and where required, ask you to agree to the new price.
7. Fair use and availability
Making GIFs costs us money each time, so we apply daily safety limits to stop abuse, including on paid plans. We work hard to keep ChatGIF running, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free, and we may change, add or remove features. If we stop offering ChatGIF, we'll give you reasonable notice.
8. Ending your use
You can stop using ChatGIF and delete your account at any time in Account › Delete account. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store subscription, so cancel that in Settings too. We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms.
9. Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you're a consumer, you have legal rights that these terms don't affect.
Otherwise, ChatGIF is provided for personal, non-commercial use. We aren't responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, for business losses, or for how you or others use GIFs you make or share. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for ChatGIF in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the ChatGIF app. Where they differ, these terms apply, as far as Apple's terms allow. Apple has no obligation to provide support for ChatGIF and isn't responsible for any claims about it, including product liability, legal compliance or intellectual property claims; we are, to the extent these terms say so. If the app fails to meet any applicable warranty, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app (if any). Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you. You confirm that you're not in a country subject to a US government embargo and aren't on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using ChatGIF after that, the new terms apply.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear disputes. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you can also bring a claim in your local courts and keep the protection of your local consumer law.
